bluebird bio (Columbia) Awarded $269k and Commits to Creating 10 Jobs (01/03/2011)

bluebird bio is a Columbia spinoff developing innovative gene therapies for severe genetic disorders. The company was founded by Dr. Arthur Bank, who was Head of the Division of Hematology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.

From the company’s press release:
The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center has approved $23.9 million in 2010 tax incentives to encourage growth at 30 life sciences companies. The recipient companies have committed to creating nearly 1000 new jobs in 2011. Among them are ten companies based in Cambridge that will receive a combined total of over $9.6 million in tax incentives. The Cambridge companies have committed to the creation of 451 jobs in 2011. read full press release
